This type of study is known as a ‘split’ night study because in some cases, we are able to ‘split’ your study into two parts allowing you to be diagnosed and treated in the same night.
As with the diagnostic sleep study sensors measure your brain waves, eye movements, muscle tone, breathing patterns and blood oxygen levels. While you are asleep your technician monitors the data for any sign of disrupted breathing known as sleep apnea.
If interruptions in your breathing are observed that meet the predefined criteria, your technician will start CPAP therapy for the remainder of the sleep study.
In some cases treatment may not be completed during a split night study, and a follow up full night CPAP titration may then be recommended by your referring physician.
