Your technician will place the following small sensors to prepare you for your sleep study recording:
  • EEG sensors are applied to your scalp, sides of your head and under your chin to record your brain waves and muscle tone.

  •  Sensors are applied to your legs and chest to measure body movement and heart rate.
  • A small microphone will be positioned on your throat to record any snoring you may have.
  • A set of easy to wear elastic belts are placed around the chest and abdomen to measure your breathing and which position you sleep in.
  • After these belts are placed, the tech will position a nasal cannula and tiny device above your upper lip that will record how you are breathing which is especially useful in patients who are be  tested for respiratory disorders like sleep apnea.
  • Lastly, a cushioned clip is placed on your finger that will record your blood oxygen levels.
All of these sensors are plugged into a mobile box located by the bedside that you can take with you to the bathroom as needed. This box communicates to the separate control room where your technician will be monitoring you throughout the night.
